Build Wooden Corner Shelves

Frame Construction

Start by using a stud finder to locate wall studs. Mark their positions, then cut wood for support – two pieces per shelf. Ensure they're straight and level. Attach these support pieces to the wall with screws, aligning them with the marked studs.

Create a frame for each shelf using pocket holes for tight joints. Apply wood glue before screwing it together for added stability. Install the cleats on the walls, measuring carefully for consistent spacing between shelves. Use longer screws to secure them into the wall studs.

Wrap the supports with beauty pieces. Start with the bottom, using a nail gun or stapler and wood glue. Place the top board to complete the sandwich setup. Finally, add the frontal trim, measuring and cutting precisely for seamless corners.

Cut and Prepare Materials

Use a table saw for clean, straight cuts on plywood and a miter saw for angled cuts on front edge pieces. Sand all visible surfaces to eliminate rough edges and prepare the wood for finishing.

Lay out your pieces and inspect each one before assembly. This final check ensures all components are ready for the next step.

Assembly and Installation

Secure the top and bottom plywood pieces to the frame using nails or screws. Ensure each edge is flush for an even surface. Position the shelves over the wall cleats, making sure they sit snugly for maximum support.

Add trim to hide rough edges and enhance the look. Cut trim to size, checking for fit before applying wood glue or using a nail gun. Mitered corners provide a crisp finish.

After attaching the trim, dust off any excess sawdust. Apply stain or paint to enhance the wood grain or match your room's color scheme.
